Wonder wall (3)...

My dear father will smile if he sees this...

p.s. Missing you Yah...be safe & healthy always. I'm praying that your mission in India will be a success.

Friday reminder...

It’s Friday...a special day for Muslims around the world. So, I’m starting this reminder section for myself & hopefully, I’m able to do it every Fridays.

This was taken as usual, from my friend on FB :)

Sekarang ni ramai yang pakai cincin... tapi ikut suka dia je...sunnah nabi jarang nak ikut..

Dikatakan bahawa menyimpan sebatang jari kuku yang panjang,
dosanya sama seperti memelihara sekandang khinzir!! Jika kesemua jejari kita menyimpan kuku

The Truth

hanya jari kelingking.

seperti memerah santan kelapa, buat cokodok pisang, uli tepong,
dll.

najis manusia, iaitu E-Coli. Kuman tersebut tidak akan hilang
walaupun kita mencuci tangan dengan sabun. Oleh itu, sentiasalah
berkuku pendek untuk kesihatan & kebersihan diri sendiri. Ini
tak termasuk korek taik hidung, telinga & sewaktu dengannya...keke.

Nasihat Nabi Muhammad S.A.W. kepada Saidina Ali kwj. sesudah
bernikah dengan Siti Fatimah iaitu anakanda kesayangan, Nabi
Muhammad S.A.W. berpesan kepada Saidina Ali iaitu kalau memakai
cincin, pakailah di jari

1] jari manis
2] jari kelingking (anak jari)

dan jangan memakai pada jari
1] jari tengah
2] jari telunjuk

Nabi Muhammad S.A.W. melarang kerana memakai cincin pada jari

I’m copy-pasting the Malay version first. I will be translating it to English later on. Have a fruitful Friday!

Minor earthquake in Kundasang O_O

From Malaysian Meteorological Department’s facebook page:

Satu gempa bumi lemah bermagnitud 2.9 skala Richter telah berlaku di Kundasang, Sabah pada pukul 3:00 petang 29 September 2011. Pusat gempa bumi tersebut terletak di latitud 6.1 Utara, longitud 116.7 Timur, 14 km Barat laut Ranau, Sabah.

Translation:
A minor earthquake at magnitude 2.9 Richter scale had occurred in Kundasang, Sabah at 3.00 p.m. on 29th September 2011. The centre of the earthquake was located at latitude 6.1 North, longitude 116.7 East, 14 km North-west of Ranau, Sabah.

p.s. Egad! I was in the school’s computer lab. I was freaked out when there’s a loud boom & the whole lab shook briefly. This is the second time I’ve experienced minor earthquake in Kundasang.

All I can say is...we live & die because of Allah. May Allah bless us all.

Wonder wall...

My dear former course mates, Yus & Sue, have been bombarding their FB posts with countless cracking wall photos. I'm tempted to share SOME of them with you here.

So, here they are...after going through my selective process...huhu.

Please remember, they are not meant for any direct insults or harsh remarks, just something silly for those who can take a bit of light fun :)

The usual; men vs. women:

p.s. My dear friends posted countless other wall photos, but they are rather inappropriate for ‘naive’ readers...so, as safety precautions, let’s just hide them into my “secret black box”, shall we? ;)

What's...Your...Name?

Rihanna sang; "Oh na na...what's my name". What’s in a name? Apparently...PLENTY.

I’ve been told...I’ve read...I know...that names have powers. That is why in some cultures, names are considered as sacred. You simply cannot tell your name to just any random person, as they can be used in some cases, for dark magic & sorcery (gulp!).

Naturally, all of us have names which we & other people called ourselves. I’ve noticed that modern parents normally give such long & peculiar names to their children. Sometimes, I wonder, what do these names mean...REALLY? Do the complicated names of these modern children even have meanings?

Let us ponder for a while whether our names comply with the following hadith:

It is reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your fathers' names, so give yourselves good names."
(Hadith Abu Dawud)

So, what do you think? I think...I have a decent name. Rather unusual, but still, not bad...hehe. My name is rather unusual due to the slight conflict between my dad & my mom while racking their brains for the perfect name to give to their first born child. My mom wanted a simple feminine name, but my dad wanted to give his input too. Therefore, while my mom was still on the hospital bed, my dad went to register my name with an added touch of his own :)

What’s my name? Well, let’s just say, one might wonder whether the name owner is a guy or a girl at first glance...keke. This happened to be true ‘cos I’ve been assigned male roommates during some of the courses I’ve attended. Male roommates mind you...TWICE! Talk about major confusion! LOL. All because of my androgynous name. I guess that’s why I prefer to use my second/middle name as it creates less confusion than my first name.

Yet, because us humans tend to give ‘affectionate’ nicknames to others, I of course, am not excluded from being ‘blessed’ with numerous nicknames of my own. Lemme see...I’ve been called Nad, Nurul, Diana, Ewok (‘cos of my fascination with Star Wars...keke), and not forgetting Sayur (‘cos I love vegetables?!). That’s just a few...good ones. I bet my students called me with lots of ‘scary’ names behind my back, especially after I shout & punish them with my usual ‘ketuk ketampi’...hehe.

So, what about you guys? What are some of your nicknames? Better than mine, I hope.

Well, talking about the power of names, what do you think about these celebrity children's names?

Pilot Inspektor...Child of: Jason Lee

Apple...Child of: Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin

Sage Moonblood...Son of: Sylvester Stallone

Audio Science...Child of: Actress Shannyn Sossamon

Moon Unit & Diva Thin Muffin...Children of: Frank Zappa

Moxie Crimefighter...Child of: Penn Jillette

                And just for fun, I give you the longest name ever recorded;

Adolph Blaine Charles David Earl Frederick Gerald Hubert Irvim John Kenneth Loyd Martin Nero Oliver Paul Quincy Randolph Sherman Thomas Uncas Victor William Xerxes Yancy Zeus (Wolfeschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorft Senior)

The name above belongs to a German immigrant to Philadelphia. Take note that his first and middle names consist of one name for each letter of the alphabet...from A to Z! WHOA! Talk about being a mouthful!

The longest one-word name is of a young Hawaiian boy named

Kananinoheaokuuhomeopuukaimanaalohilo...

which means "The beautiful aroma of my home at Sparkling Diamond Hill is carried to the Eyes of Heaven". Nonetheless, people calls him...JOE. Keke.

Still on the topic of names... According to some cultures, when a woman gets married, she will have to either add or change her surname to those of her husband’s. Thus, we have Mr. & Mrs. Smith! Ooo...sexy! Have you watched the movie yet? Scandalous! Poor Jennifer Aniston...huhu.

Ehem...let's continue. What was the topic? Names...oh yes! A name reflects one’s character & personality. This is quite true in most cases. That is why people tend to change their names if they think that their given names are not appropriate, does not suit themselves, or they simply prefer glamorous, outstanding names. Do you know to whom these names belong to?

Curtis Jackson?
William Bailey?
Paul Hewson?
Demetria Gene Guynes?
Eleanor Gow?

Ring any bells? Well, apparently, they belong to 50 Cent, Axl Rose, Bono, Demi Moore & Elle Macpherson. O_O

Talk about changing their fates, eh? I wouldn’t have bothered about them if they use their original names. It’s either too plain, too forgettable, or simply too complicated.

What about you guys? If you are a celebrity, what would your name be?

I would like to suggest that you choose a name which begins with the letter J. Why? Well, according to the book “The Secret Universe of Names”  which I’ve bought sometime last year...people whose names begin with the letter J is 250% more likely to become millionaires than people with names beginning with the letter N (I need to change my name...hihi)

I guess this has some truth to it. Some of the world’s well-known authors have names which begins with the letter J. For example, J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling. J.D. Robb...and hopefully my aunt too...JUNIE OCTOVIAN! Ooo...fascinating.

Gosh...I don’t think I can finish talking about the interesting stuff I've gathered about names in just one entry. Maybe, I should continue this discussion in the next entry before it bores you to death, eh? Well, to conclude for now, I would like to present you with the links below. The games we play...

I just had to write something about my latest obsession...

GAME OF THRONES. ‘nuff said.

Have you heard the prologue track song yet? Goosebumps, I tell ‘ya. Brilliant! I really need to get the soundtrack.

I guess I need to rant some more after Astro finished showing the first season. I know even though deep down in my heart I refused to believe it & as much as I hate to admit it, Ned Stark will die. Beheaded? Cruel, just cruel. And what's more, he was beheaded while Sansa Stark, his daughter was forced to watch? Extremely cruel. Gosh.

I hope the second season will be shown simultaneously here in Malaysia as that in the US. Though I know the govt needs to do some tweaking here and there in editing most of the graphic scenes, of course.

Favourite characters so far? Too many!

The loyal Eddard Stark

 the untested Jon Snow

 the femme fatale Daenerys

 the tomboyish Arya Stark

the wilful Catelyn

the cynical Tyrion...

GAH! I simply couldn’t make up my mind! This series is quite simply...my taste :)

I think this is the first time I’ve watched something based on books, WITHOUT reading the books FIRST. I wonder if I should read the book series while waiting for the second season to be released? Well, I think I just might.

As the picture above stated, I’ve awakened! Well, the 'dragon' in me is awakened, somewhat...keke. Pardon the pun...'cos according to the Chinese zodiac, I'm supposed to be a fire dragon...lol. So, yea, I’ll be anticipating the next season faithfully. Wouldn’t want to miss the medieval awesomeness that is...GAME OF THRONES.

To Wars or To Trek...that is the question

“You may start your landing...”

LOL. I don’t know why. That line will conjured up in my mind whenever someone mentioned my all-time favourite sci-fi movie saga. I think my siblings might have already guessed from which movie that line came from...keke. As for the rest of you non sci-fi movie geeks, it’s from the original trilogy saga of Star Wars. Specifically, from The Empire Strikes Back during the snow battle :)

Yup! I’m officially a Star Wars geek. And I’m proud to admit it too. Imagine that. But le gasp! I was sitting in front of the TV recently, and managed to watch...Star Trek!

I thought I would hate it, what’s with being a bona fide fan of Star Wars for well, decades of my life. But, surprisingly, no. I enjoyed it! Then, I remembered something. I think I bought the DVD version of that movie uhm, last year? And after some rummaging through my movies collection, yes! I did buy the DVD. But, I never did watch it. It’s still in its pristine condition...huhu.

So, I watched the copy that I bought and all, and guess what I figured out? No wonder I like the movie. It was directed by J.J. Abrams who created my all-time favourite female spy series, Alias! And J.J. managed to somehow incorporate some of the excitement from a particular movie that got him inspired. The name of that movie which inspired him? Star Wars

J.J. You’re ‘da man! I regret for not taking notice of this movie earlier. Hehe...sorry J.J. dude.

What’s more...Kirk. OMG! Totally cool persona & real cute too. Hello there, Chris Pine! I liked him in Princess Diaries 2, I laughed along when I watched him in Just My Luck, but whoa! He somehow graduated and became one of my fave actors because of Star Trek! Plus, the gorgeous Zoe Saldana's in this movie. She's awesome. Actually, she needs to get a movie of her own. Eh? She's the lead in Colombiana? I need to watch that, I think.

And ooo, more good news. J.J. is producing/directing the sequel. It’s in pre-production stage and scheduled to be out next year. Okay, I need to watch out for that. After all, we are talking about J.J. Abrams here, sci-fi genius! Come to think of it, hmm, I need to watch Super 8 too.

Well, anyway, as Spock mentioned over and over again... “Live long & prosper!”
